Canada and Southeast Asia: The Opportunity in the Financial Sector
The School of Public Policy and the Schulich School of Business are pleased to invite you to attend a conference to discuss opportunities in financial markets in Southeast Asia for Canada and Canadian Business.
Emerging markets are becoming increasingly attractive areas for the export of Canadian financial services, and Southeast Asia, with a population of over 600 million and a growing middle class, is one of the most promising regions globally for the provision of these services. With Canada and ASEAN currently preparing terms of reference for a feasibility study on the merits of a free trade agreement, it is most timely to take a closer look at Southeast Asia, and the opportunities for Canadian financial services there.
This event will provide the unique opportunity for a select group of business leaders, academics and government policy makers to share their experiences, increase their knowledge of risk and opportunities in Southeast Asia and directly contribute toward better government policy – by informing government decision makers what “getting public policy right” for Canada’s financial sector in Southeast Asia looks like.
Featured keynote presentations include:
- Her Excellency, Ambassador Marie-Louise Hannan, Canada’s first ambassador to ASEAN
- Dr. Mari Pangestu, former Minister of Trade, Indonesia
- Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, former Secretary-General of UNCTAD and former Secretary-General of the WTO, past president of Thai Military Bank and Deputy Minister of Finance
- Honourable Jean Charest, PC, Honorary Chairman, Canada-ASEAN Business Council and Partner, McCarthy-Tétrault
