Meet and Greet with EU Member of Parliament Arne Lietz

The School of Public Policy is pleased to welcome Member of the European Parliament Arne Lietz for a short reception and meet and greet. Mr. Lietz is visiting Canada to talk about trade with Europe, climate change and opportunities to build the relationship between Canada and Europe, and is keen to hear from Calgarians their perspective on issues that matter to Canada and to Germany.

Arne Lietz is a member of the European Parliament, and a German member of the S&D group there. His work in parliament focuses mainly on Foreign Affairs, Development, Transatlantic Affairs and Security and Defence. Mr. Lietz grew up in the former East Germany, and belongs to the last East German generation that grew up in a divided Europe. He worked with Action Reconciliation for Peace and the Federal Center for Education in Germany, and studied history, politics and educational science at the Humboldt-Universitat in Berlin and University of Cape Town in South Africa.
In 2008, Mr. Lietz joined the SPD, a social democratic political party in Germany. He was elected as a local chair and leader of the regional association. In May 2014, he was elected to the European Parliament, and is a member of the S&D group, and works on the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Development Committee.
