The School of Public Policy is based out of the University of Calgary’s unique downtown campus, located in the dynamic city of Calgary, Alberta.

A vibrant, young city, Calgary is home to a thriving innovation sector. Calgary offers endless opportunity to grow your business and grow your career. The city also offers plenty of distractions, with North America’s longest urban pathway in our backyard and ten world-class ski resorts a mere three hours away.

Calgary sits in the sunny eastern foothills of Canada’s Rocky Mountains, where the Bow and Elbow rivers meet. It is the major urban centre for the entire southern half of the province of Alberta, and is surrounded by an area of profound beauty with an unspoiled, resource-rich natural environment.

In 2019, Calgary ranked the most livable city in North America and the 5th most livable city in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit. Population density is low, quality of life is high and housing is abundant.

Calgary’s population is young, well educated, entrepreneurial, community minded, and generous. As individuals, Calgarians are family-focused, recreation lovers, that are committed to a healthy work-life balance. As citizens, Calgarians are enthusiastic supporters of community organizations: there are more volunteers in Alberta than the national average.

What is the top priority of most Calgarians? Sustaining this city’s superb quality of life. This means ensuring the economic, environmental, health and wellness, recreational, educational and social service advantages that Calgarians have today will be here in the future.

“Most people know Calgary as the centre of Canada’s energy industry, as the closest metropolitan centre to the Rocky Mountains and as the home of the world-renowned Calgary Stampede. Calgary is definitely all of those things, but it’s also so much more.” – MAYOR NAHEED NENSHI
