Integrated Learning

Unlike traditional graduate programs, the Master of Public Policy enables students to solve a broad range of real-world policy problems through integrated learning. By linking practical elements into the educational foundation of the MPP, students will graduate with both a theory-based and functional knowledge of the professional world.

The School of Public Policy is proud to incorporate many practical learning elements tailored for students including:

GOVERNMENT OF ALBERTA INTERNSHIPS

The School of Public Policy has partnered with the Government of Alberta to offer an exclusive internship within the government starting in 2020. Five interns from the MPP program will be placed in Spring of 2020, and ten interns in Spring of 2021 and 2022. This opportunity will give students unique access to an experiential learning opportunity within the provincial government, help build their public policy expertise and launch their careers.

INTERNATIONAL AND DOMESTIC ELECTIVES

Master of Public Policy students will be given the chance to travel domestically and internationally to learn about the similarities and differences in public policy around the country and the world.

Students have travelled to Israel for the Multi-Faces of Israel course, to gain international perspective from leaders and industry innovators.

MPP students spend ten days in Israel learning about the similarities and differences in Israeli and Canadian public policy.

The Master of Public Policy program also offers a spring elective on the Geopolitics of Energy and Natural Resources in partnership with the Universite Lavel, Quebec City. Bringing together leading experts, this joint effort results in an intensive week of discussions of global issues – political, economic, environmental and social. Participants analyze the challenges and obstacles related to the management of natural resources against a backdrop of profound geopolitical changes.

This curriculum is designed to give students a broad understanding of comparative public policy and the varying dynamics that take place in the development and establishment of relevant policy within many societies.
