Admissions Requirements

To be admitted to the MPP program, you must meet the admissions requirements of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the admission requirements for the Master of Public Policy program.

Faculty of Graduate Studies Admission Requirements

Requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • A four-year bachelor’s degree
  • A grade point average of 3 or better
  • Proficiency in the English language
  • Full admissions requirements are listed in the Graduate Calendar.

Master of Public Policy Admissions Requirements

In addition to the minimum qualifications for admission to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, the School of Public Policy requires:

  • A minimum 3.3 grade point average (on the four-point scale) in the last two years of your undergraduate program or over the last 60 units (10 full course equivalents)
  • A current resume
  • A personal statement outlining your career goals and how the MPP program would help achieve those goals
  • For students required to prove proficiency in English, a minimum TOEFL score of 600 (paper test) or 105 (Internet-based test) or a score of 7.5 on the IELTS.

International Students

If you completed your previous studies in a country other than Canada, please look up the grade equivalency for your country.

2020-2021 Applications

Applications for the 2020-2021 MPP open October 1, 2019 and must be submitted by February 1, 2020.


How to Apply

Apply now for the Master of Public Policy at the University of Calgary.

There are two steps to completing your application for admission.

  1. Complete the online application.
    1. There is a non-refundable application fee – $125 for Canadian citizens / Permanent Residents or $145 for international students with a valid study permit.
  2. Submit your supporting documents.
    1. Digital supporting documents should be uploaded to your UCalgary Student Centre.
      1. A current resume / curriculum vitae.
      2. Two (2) letters of reference from academic referees.
      3. A personal statement outlining your, career goals, and how the MPP will help you achieve those goals.
    2. Official documents should be mailed to the MPP office.
      1. Two (2) official transcripts from every post-secondary institution you have attended.
      2. Language proficiency test scores (if required).Send official documents to:
