The School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary, in partnership with the Government of Alberta’s Department of Finance, invites you to a special roundtable on Monday, June 16, 2025.

This event marks the culmination of a three-year research partnership focused on identifying and evaluating strategic opportunities to strengthen Alberta’s financial sector.

Over the course of this collaboration, more than a dozen distinct research programs were undertaken, each contributing to a broader understanding of how Alberta, and Canada more broadly, can build a more dynamic and competitive financial ecosystem.

The roundtable will showcase select research outcomes from this initiative and foster dialogue on future research directions and policy development opportunities across Canada’s financial landscape. The event will bring together leaders from the financial business community, academia and government for a thoughtful and forward-looking conversation.

Opening remarks will be delivered by Dr. Jack Mintz and Alberta’s Assistant Deputy Minister of Financial Sector Regulation and Policy, Chris Merriman.  A keynote speech over lunch will be delivered by Travis Toews, former Minister of Finance for the Province of Alberta.
