Essential Allies? A Fireside Chat with Paul St-Pierre Plamondon – September 11 2025

The School of Public Policy hosted a Fireside Chat with Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, Leader of the Parti Québécois (PQ), at the University of Calgary Downtown Campus on Thursday, September 11.

The PQ currently hold a lead in public opinion polls in Quebec. If they form government after the 2026 provincial election, Mr. Plamondon, a McGill and Oxford-educated lawyer and media personality, would be Quebec’s next premier and he has pledged he would hold a third referendum on Quebec’s independence.

The School of Public Policy puts a priority on providing forums for critical conversations about public policy in Canada and the Fireside Chat will be led by Martha Hall Findlay, Director of the School and James S. and Barbara A. Palmer Chair in Public Policy.

Their discussion will provide a pulse check on Quebec politics and address issues including federal-provincial relations, Canada’s immigration policy, improving economic productivity, economic corridors, and U.S President’s Donald Trump’s impact on Canada’s economy and politics.
