The 10th Anniversary of the Korea-Canada FTA: Alberta’s Opportunities and Challenges

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the KCFTA and over the past decade, this landmark agreement has greatly strengthened trade and investment relations between Korea and Canada.
Since the implementation of the KCFTA, bilateral trade between Korea and Canada has doubled, solidifying Korea’s position as a key economic partner for Canada. As Canada’s first and only bilateral FTA with an Asian country, the KCFTA has eliminated tariffs, improved market access and created new opportunities for businesses in key sectors such as energy and agriculture.
At a time when Canada seeks to further diversify trade, Korea is well-positioned as a strategic partner to enhance trade diversification and investment, particularly in Alberta. This conference, put on by the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary, in partnership with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Vancouver will explore the evolving opportunities and challenges with Korea-Alberta trade and investment relations to foster deeper economic cooperation. It will convene key stakeholders in the Alberta-Korea trade relationship to network and promote awareness of relevant opportunities and policies.
