Canadian Governance Policy
Public policy in Canada is distinctive in that it is shaped and delivered overwhelmingly by provinces and local communities. The federal government provides financial support for some of the resulting public goods and services while managing functions over which it has direct authority. As a result, national policies emerge from the multifaceted interaction of relatively independent indigenous, local, provincial, and federal governments with varying resources and policy preferences. National policy diplomacy is the fulcrum of policy formation in Canada. The Canadian Governance Policy group explores the dynamics of this diplomacy in order to inform and improve public policy outcomes across Canada.
