International Trade

The School of Public Policy has established itself as a global centre of excellence in taxation and fiscal policy. The School’s faculty and fellows include distinguished economic experts who produce research on topics like tax competitiveness, barriers to trade and foreign direct investment. This research combines empirical-based analysis with clear policy recommendations in order to have a real impact on government.

The School also has a proven ability to create forums for internationally recognized experts and policy figures to discuss and debate global economic issues. Among those that have spoken at School-hosted events are Larry Summers, former U.S. Treasury Secretary and advisor to President Obama, as well as Juan Carlos Echeverry, former Minister of Finance for Colombia.

Building on this success, the International Trade program produces new research that capture a broad range of policy topics promoting Canada’s ascension in the world economy. Specific areas of investigation include trade, investment, immigration, tax and financial market regulation. These efforts are facilitated by the working relationships The School has established with the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and the International Tax and Investment Center, among others.
