Women in Politics – Challenges and Barriers to Entry

Alternate Text or Title of article

Calgary, AB

Two elections are coming up next year – elections that have a potentially huge impact on all Albertans. Candidates will be chosen shortly, and if the past is any guide, women will be underrepresented as candidates and as elected officials. Improving participation by women in the political landscape – and successful policies to enable that change – requires an understanding of the barriers they face. Join us for an informal discussion to talk about these issues, and to try to better understand the challenges impacting women in politics.

Join our panel for a new discussion format. Policy and a Pint brings experts together in a casual and intimate setting to discuss the latest in research, politics and policy trends with those of you who, at the end of the day, might want to lift an elbow while learning.

Panel Speakers:

  • Donna Kennedy-Glans, Writer, Co-founder ViewpointsAB Initiative, former Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta (2012-2015)
  • Dr. Melanee Thomas, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, University of Calgary
  • Dr. Jennifer Winter, Scientific Director, Energy and Environmental Policy, The School of Public Policy
