Capstone Project and Symposium

Every MPP student completes a capstone, an academically sound, professional-quality paper focused on a public policy issue. Working with an academic supervisor, you will identify a capstone topic during the Fall and Winter terms. You will research and write the 30-40 page paper during the Spring and Summer terms. Some students combine their work on the capstone with an internship or employment.

The capstone is an opportunity to integrate and apply the you’ve knowledge gained in the program to a particular policy area, extend your knowledge in one specific policy field, and demonstrate to potential employers your high level of competence and professional practice.

In the Fall term, the School of Public Policy hosts a Capstone Symposium for recent MPP graduates to present their capstone projects to representatives of businesses, not-for-profit organizations, and government, as well as MPP students and alumni.
